A Bookmark for Terrorism

By: vivek on 16 Nov 2008

This post serves as a placeholder of sorts - a reminder of past stories on which we've commented whose ramifications we're seeing today, and about which I'll be writing in the next few weeks:

The Other Hindu Bomb? -- May 15, 2006

On April 6, two Bajrang Dal activists were killed and three others injured in Nanded, Maharashtra when a bomb they were making exploded.

The More Terrorists, the Merrier -- January 5, 2007

Further evidence linking Nanded and Malegaon…

Insurance Fraud or Terrorism? -- February 19, 2007

On February 10, the Press Trust of India reported on an explosion in a storage facility just outside of Nanded, Maharasthra

Suffering: A Hindu's is Worth Seven Times a Muslim's -- March 27, 2007

In my first post on PTR, I expressed some genuine hope regarding Manmohan Singh’s response to the Minority Commission’s report identifying Muslims as India’s most disadvantaged community, i.e., claiming that Muslims should have the first claim on resources generated from an ‘ascendant India.’ And what better candidates than those who have lost their next of kin in an abominable attack by the Bajrang Dal, ‘unknown terrorists?’

Hyderabad's Mecca Masjid Bombed, Police Kill Protestors... How Long Before Centre Blames ISI and Local Muslims? -- May 19, 2007

I’m not going to jump to conclusions and accuse elements of the Sangh Parivar of this yet, despite my belief in their involvement in Malegaon (the aformentioned Maharashtra bombing).

The point, which I think some of us have been trying to make for some time now, is that anyone can commit an act of terrorism. So no, it's not only terrorism when Hindus do it, it's also terrorism when Hindus do it.

Wait, I’m confused. Weren’t the bombings in Jaipur, Assam, Delhi, Varanasi, etc. also terrorism? Or is it only terrorism when Hindus are accused of being the perpetrators? When Islamic fundamentalists plant bombs it’s all a justified reaction to oppression, right?

I don't think you should put words in his mouth....it's not really fair, or warranted in this case.
