Varun's latest gem is he is Lord Rama

The delusional fantasies of Varun Gandhi, the controversial BJP nominee from Pilibhit, came to the fore on Wednesday when he called himself "Shri Rama" in Aligarh. "I am Shri Rama," he said during an election rally at HB Inter College in Aligarh, when the people requested him to raise the BJP's slogan of "Jai Shri Rama".

Pointing his finger towards himself, Varun said with a smile, "Main hi to Shri Rama hun." (I am Shri Rama). It was certainly not a slip of tongue because he repeated it. He said there was more to say but he was restraining himself because he didn't want to go to jail again. "I don't want to say more because I want to avoid going back to Etah. It is not that the jail is a bad place, but going there time and again wouldn't be a nice proposition," he said.

Interestingly, just two days ago Varun had said he was ready to go to jail again for the cause of "Hindutva". Varun was lodged in Etah jail for 20 days after his venomous remarks against minority communities.

The BJP has always banked on Lord Rama for its Hindutva agenda. But now, getting a good response from party leaders who have deployed him to campaign across Uttar Pradesh for the BJP, Varun seems to have suddenly discovered himself bigger than the party and on par with the religious icon.
