Civilian, Military factions of Government of Sri Lanka Fall Out

Apparently the General and the President are squabbling.  The General:

"Your excellency?s government has yet to win the peace in spite of the fact that the army under my leadership won the war," he said.

"There is no clear policy to win the hearts and minds of the Tamil people, which will surely ruin the victory attained, paving the way for yet another uprising in the future."

There is a an international solidarity march taking place in Gaza on New Years Day, 2010.  I believe it will be a big part of what sets Gaza free, and in the long run, maybe Israelis, Tamils, Sri Lankans and others.  Be like Chomsky and others: endorse the march here and sign up to join the march here.

280,000 displaced civilians living in detention camps in Sri Lanka

If it were shocking that there was little done to stop the war in Sri Lanka before, it is almost astonishing how quickly the messy realities left over have receded into oblivion.  An excerpt from the CNN article:

"We do not know what the other Tamil parties are up to, or what they are looking for," says Suresh Premachandran, a senior member of Parliament with the TNA. "However, if they too are looking for a solution that gives greater autonomy to the northeast, then we have no problem in holding discussions with the Tamil parties. There must be a radical change in the constitution. Both the north and east should be merged and should be given a greater autonomy with more powers."

Hundreds of ethnic Tamil Malaysians, including MPs, gathered at the Batu Caves Hindu temple to protest against the Sri Lankan Government's "war against Tamils" there.

The rally, organised by the World Tamil Relief and several NGOs, condemned the thousands of Tamils lives lost in the war in northern Sri Lanka.

Deputy Federal Territories Minister M Saravanan said the rally was not in support of any militant group but to show concern for the loss of lives of innocent Tamil civilians.

The Millennium of Aftermath...in Sri Lanka

Point 1:

Even as the end of the war has brought a new flood of refugees in the north in recent days, the United Nations, the International Red Cross and other groups have said that the military’s restrictions have curtailed their activities and are endangering the lives of a refugee population now estimated at 280,000.
